"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)

The Daewoo Chevy Spark is the cheapest car for sale in both the United States and Canada, but in Canada it’s about half the price. I’m baffled as to why ours is so much cheaper. I know we have different currencies, but half the price is a little insane.
Canadian-market Spark, $9,998 CAD = $ 7,588 USD
US-market Spark, $13,400 USD = $ 17, 653 CAD
That’s one hell of a chasm between them. It’s not like they’re different or anything, barring metric gauges and the possible inclusion of standard air conditioning on the US one, as lots of Canadian-spec cars have the option to get it deleted because people forget it gets hot here too.

I would venture a guess that it is $13,400 because that is juuust cheap enough to be the lowest MSRP new car sold in the United States. They don’t drop the price more because they don’t have to.

That is true, the Spark is (definitely not coincidentally) the same price that the also sometimes cheapest car in the country, the Nissan Micra, was when it was launched. The Mirage also gets price cuts to around the same price range, but it’s usually the most expensive of the three.

I think all US models come with AC, vs canada which then groups it in with cvt, alloy wheels for 14.6k. canadian. Also maybe the price is so high so dealers can slash off 2k for a “sale”

Canada has real competition in the Micra, which is or was $10k in their dollars.

Seems like a car that should have been more successful than it was.

Another addition to the long list of reasons to move to Canada...
Although, maybe not for the Spark... but cheaper cars in general?

As long as they are making profit, the manufacturers will charge whatever the market will bear.

But the rain gets hard up there. To even go outside with that, one has to put on more than shorts. So, no.

I live in Florida. Not only does the rain get hard, it gets hot...
And I hate wearing shorts anyways...
